President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has pledged to slack the internet rates by 30 percent, with the government planning to purchase a submarine cable.
Addressing the 'Hiyaa Accomplished function held at Hulhumale' Phase 2, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom assured to purchase a first-ever submarine cable for Maldives, if he is elected for a second term in office. President Abdulla Yameen revealed it will result in a cut down of internet rates by 30 percent. While the president has announced to purchase a submarine cable, the government has initiated a project to establish Hulhumale' as a smart city.
Noting that fulfilling dreams of the youth is his priority, President Yameen stated bringing the Maldives to the frontlines in the world, in terms of development, is his ambition. In the speech, the president announced plans to establish international financial centres and business centres in Hulhumale' Youth City, further stating the dream is to make Maldives the most outstanding country in the region and in the world. President Yameen said in contrast to the opposition coalition, the current administration has the vision to bring appropriate development to Maldives.
Noting that information communication sector of the country will be revolutionised upon the establishment of information and communication technology parks in Hulhumale' and Villimale'-2, the president affirmed training youth in the field will be prioritised in a second term, sharing the vision of making Maldives more technologically advanced in the coming years.
Moreover, criticising the opposition, the president expressed a government, when in power, which cannot halt private and public property vandalism will not be able to govern a country. Furthermore, President Yameen highlighted the numerous development projects carried out across the country for youth empowerment.
The president especially noted the housing schemes targeted for the youth. In this regard, he underscored two of the administration's housing schemes, the Hiyaa project and Hiyaa Accomplished project, were planned as total solution projects for the housing problems faced by Maldivians.
