MACL operating VIA served for the best interest of the country: IAS

Island Aviation Services Limited, the national airline carrier, has revealed a Maldivian company operating Velana International Airport (VIA) rather than foreigners have served in the best interest of the country.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News regarding the achievements of the past five years of the national airline, Maldivian, Head of Training Standards Captain Mohamed Shinaz stated many challenges were faced in operations when the airport was handed over to India-based GMR Group. However, he noted operations have been enhanced and boosted once VIA was handed back to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).

Moreover, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer of Island Aviation Mohamed Leemaan Luthufee said while operations have been enhanced with the increased number of its fleet, more space is needed for the operations to go smoothly. He noted the assistance of MACL and the efforts to expand VIA, as part of a US 1 billion project.

Island Aviation highlighted the noteworthy achievements made by the company since MACL began operating VIA. The national airline carrier revealed it has established the latest technological facilities, aircraft and its maintenance in the past five years.
