The Maldives National University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maldives Centre for Islamic Finance (MCIF), with the objective of jointly managing the South Asian Institute for Islamic Finance (SAIIF). Managing Director of Maldives Centre for Islamic Finance Ibrahim Didi and Vice Chancellor of Maldives National University Dr. Ali Fawaz Shareef signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Ibrahim Didi said the South Asian Institute for Islamic Finance (SAIIF) was formulated to funnel, necessary professional training for the Maldivian financial service sector. He assured under the MoU with MNU, notable progress would be made in training professionals in Islamic finance.
“This institute would be active in this region. This includes the establishment of an international financial service centre in the Maldives. Service provided by the centre would include training required for such work,” Ibrahim Didi said.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Dr. Ali Fawaz Shareef noted the main aim of MNU in this venture would be training Islamic Finance professionals in the region. He added making MNU a recognisable name in the region would be a target.
“We, are conducting several programmes even through the Islamic Finance Institution. I see this expand in the days to come. Our thinking even now, is to include Islamic Finance modules in existing programmes as well,” Dr. Fawaz said.
MNU and SAIIF will also work together to incorporate Islamic Finance based modules into the courses offered by MNU.
