Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has elected President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom as the party leader. President Yameen was elected as the party leader during the ongoing extraordinary congress of the ruling party.
Furthermore, PPM also elected Minister of Legal Affairs at President’s Office Aishath Azima Shakoor, Minister of Tourism Mooza Zameer, Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed and parliamentarian Abdul Raheem Abdulla as the deputy leader of the party.
Moreover, PPM also elected a new 30-member council. PPM said amendments will also be brought to the party charter during the congress.
The congress commenced according to the preferred dates of the party and with the approval of Elections Commission of Maldives, despite some people working to obstruct the congress saying it is being held unlawfully.
