Hassan Latheef appointed as Director General of Transition

Civil Service Commission of Maldives (CSC) has appointed Hassan Latheef as the Director General of Transition to facilitate the smooth transition of powers. Following the nomination sent on behalf of President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, CSC appointed Hassan Latheef as the Director General of Transition and handed the letter of appointment.

Director General of Transition must ease the process of transition and arrange necessary expenses and services, within the law, if needed by the president-elect and vice president-elect to conduct the transition. That includes an office, staff and equipment needed for the president-elect and technical expertise if needed, salary of those experts, communication facilities and other such administrative arrangements. An amount of not more than USD 65,000 can be spent for the transition and must not include expenses of the president-elect before elections or swearing-in, according to the constitution.

While a Director General of Transition has been appointed, transition procedure has begun officially. Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has appointed former Parliament Speaker Abdulla Shahid to assess and assist the process on behalf of Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
