President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed to the post of Commissioner of Police.
The post of Commissioner of Police has been filled by Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz since February 3, 2018. With the appointment of Hamdhoon Rasheed as the Commissioner of Police, Abdulla Nawaz has been appointed as the Deputy Minister at the Minister of Environment and Energy.
President appointed a new Commissioner of Police; eight months after the removal of former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef from the post. Ahmed Areef was removed from the post for working to implement the Supreme Court ruling of February 1, to release detainees and reinstate parliamentarians.
