Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has sent a letter to Elections Commission of Maldives saying the extraordinary congress of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) was held against the relevant regulations.
In a letter addressed to the President of Elections Commission, the former president noted the PPM congress held last week does not abide by the party charter and no special situation detailed in the party charter have taken place to call for an extraordinary congress.
While former President Maumoon has sent a letter to the commission, the electoral body has previously stated there are no grounds to obstruct the PPM Congress.
