PPM will be the only opposition party: Ambassador Shareef

Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka Mohamed Hussain Shareef has stated members who have removed themselves from Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is working to snatch an important aspect of democracy by trying to change the identity of the party.

Speaking at a press conference held in PPM Office, the ambassador noted once Ibrahim Mohamed Solih swears-in, PPM will be the only opposition party as the president-elect represents a wide coalition consisting of all other major political parties. In this regard, Mohamed Hussain Shareef expressed PPM is acting upon its responsibility as an opposition party following the outcome of the presidential election. Mohamed Hussain Shareef claimed former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and other members who left the party are trying to change the identity of the PPM.

Furthermore, Mohamed Hussain Shareef stated it is expected that Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will aim to generate a vast administration than President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, as political posts need to be distributed among the coalition partners. In this regard, he said while the current administration consists of 14 ministries, the new administration will have to create more ministries.
