Alhan Fahmy quits PPM

Former Parliamentarian Alhan Fahmy has quit Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), barely a month after signing. The former parliamentarian signed for the ruling during the last few weeks in the run-up to the presidential election.

In a letter sent to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who also leads PPM, Alhan Fahmy said he believes he can better serve the people by working with the opposition coalition. He also urged the president to cooperate with the president-elect and facilitate a smooth transition of power.

Although it is unclear which political party he will join, Alhan had previously represented Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Jumhoory Party.
