Former Secretary General of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has stated an undercover agency of a neighbouring country influenced the results of presidential election.
A tweet posted by Dr. Abdulla Khaleel said the result of the presidential election was rigged and it was done with the assistance of an undercover agency of a neighbouring country. However, Khaleel did not mention any further details or the country. Moreover, the parliamentarian noted the opposition gained power in 2008 by rigging the election, adding even though it was not realised in the past, it is very clear now.
While some leaders of the ruling party are raising concerns over the presidential election, President Abdulla Yameen Abdulla Gayoom has conceded defeat in the election and congratulated the president-elect. However, after a week, President Yameen has raised concerns and asked the Elections Commission to justify the results and address the doubts on the final election results.
