Minister of State for Asia and Pacific at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom Mark Field has called on President-Elect of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
During the meeting, Mark Field congratulated Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for the landslide victory in the Presidential Election 2018. Furthermore, discussions were held to collaborate and support in shared values and interests.
In a tweet posted after his meeting with the president-elect, Mark Field revealed talks were held about how the United Kingdom can work with the incoming government to strengthen human rights and democracy in Maldives.
This is the first official visit of Foreign and Commonwealth Minister for Asia and The Pacific to Maldives. Commenting on his visit, Mark Field expressed delight to be making the first visit to Maldives, especially at such an important moment in the country's history. Mark Field will hold discussions with politicians from across the political spectrum of Maldives.
