PPM critical of ACC's halt-order on housing scheme

Parliamentary Group Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has stated there is no reason why land should not be issued from Hulhumale'. The parliamentary group leader of the ruling party made the statement following a temporary halt-order by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) citing complaints regarding legal discrepancies and corruption in the processes to issue 400 lands from Hulhumale'

Referring to the halt-order by ACC of the application process opened for 400 land plots from Hulhumale' phase II, which was opened by the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure, Nihan said the sole purpose of developing Hulhumale' was to provide a permanent solution for housing issues.

Taking to Twitter to express his frustration, Nihan noted there are a number of residents from Male' and people registered in the Male' Citizens' Register who are in need of housing and therefore there is no reason why such people should not be provided cheap housing opportunities. As the purpose of the land reclamation projects by the government is housing, Nihan added plots should be awarded to both people registered in the island and people from neighbouring islands as well.
