HRCM declares voting smooth and peaceful

Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has assured no complications or behaviours were experienced in the voting procedure which may affect the results of the presidential election. In its observation report of Presidential Election 2018, HRCM said the voting procedure was conducted peacefully and smoothly.

None of the voter population were obstructed to vote in the election, according to the report. However, HRCM noted there were some administrative works which needs to be improved for the upcoming elections.

Moreover, HRCM revealed no complaints were submitted to the commission on voting day, adding however, some issues by media monitors and from observers were highlighted. In this regard, HRCM noted immediate action was taken by the Election Commission, National Complaints Bureau and Maldives Police Service to 10 reported issues.

HRCM further reiterated the reported issues were of no major concern which may have obstructed the voting right or affect the results of the election.
