Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has expressed confidence that former President Mohamed Nasheed will arrive to Maldives free from all charges. Former President Mohamed Nasheed has announced his return to Maldives on November 1.
Speaking to media regarding the preparations for the arrival, Chairperson of MDP Hassan Latheef stated Mohamed Nasheed will arrive free from all charges and as an individual who can practice all human and political rights. Noting welcoming activities are ongoing to welcome Nasheed to Maldives after 2 years, 9 months and about 13 days, Hassan Latheef revealed efforts are underway to include as many people as possible in the celebrations. The opportunity will also be given to residents in atolls to welcome the former president, added Hassan Latheef.
Following the win for Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the presidential election, some parliamentarians and activists have been released by the Criminal Court of Maldives.
