US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State calls on Foreign Secretary

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Ambassador Alice G. Wells has called on Foreign Secretary of Maldives Ahmed Sareer.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Secretary Sareer and Ambassador Wells discussed the bilateral relations between the Maldives and United States of America, and ways of further strengthening the existing ties, including in areas such as counter-terrorism, institutional reform, democracy consolidation and other areas of mutual benefit.

Ambassador Wells is on a two-day official visit to the Maldives. She is scheduled to meet with President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Speaker of Parliament, Abdulla Maseeh, as well as senior government officials including Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar and Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. Mohamed Shainee.

Ambassador Wells was accompanied by Chargé d' Affaires of the US Embassy in Colombo Robert Hilton, Chief of Political Section at the US Embassy in Colombo, Anthony Renzulli, and Head of the US State Department’s Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives and Bhutan Office Patrick McEachern.
