MACL to establish fire station before commercial operations of A380 to VIA

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed the new fire station will be fully operational before international airlines begin commercial operations of Airbus A380 to Velana International Airport (VIA). The new fire station is developed as part of the 1 billion US dollar mega expansion project of VIA.

MACL stated laying the foundation of the fire station building has now been completed while the construction of the building will begin soon. The new fire station is a category 10 fire station which can operate rescue missions for the biggest airlines in the world, according to MACL. Moreover, MACL noted the new fire station accommodates a marine station which can conduct rescue mission for aviation related incidents at sea.

While the new runway is to be brought to operation in January next year, efforts are underway to commence commercial operations of the largest aircraft in the world. MACL aims to make the new fire station to be fully operational by the end of the year.
