International test flights have been conducted on the runway developed as part of the airport development project in Maafaru, according to Regional Airports.
Regional Airports revealed the aim is to develop the runway to cater for the largest commercial aircraft in operation, including Airbus A320 and Boeing 747 aircraft. In this regard, the authority revealed an Airbus A320 operated by Emirates has completed test flights on the runway. It is reported a 2,200 metre long, 40 metre wide runway will be developed in the airport developed to international standards in Noonu Atoll.
The airport is developed at a cost of USD 60 million, which is provided by Abu Dhabi Fund as grant aid.
