Elections Commission of Maldives has revealed preparations are underway to hold the general election in March 2019.
Speaking to PSM News, Spokesperson and member of Elections Commission Ahmed Akram stated discussions are being held with political parties regarding the general election while the term of the 85 parliamentarians is nearing an end. The serial meetings are held with separate parliamentarians, while meetings have begun with political parties to discuss the constituencies represented in the parliament, added Akram.
Moreover, while speaking on increasing the number of constituencies in Greater Male’ region, Akram said political parties have been given the chance to make a decision on the issue. The political parties have been given until October 21 to decide on the number of constituencies in the Greater Male region, according to Akram.
