Adhaalath Party has requested Supreme Court to review the jail sentence of its president Imran Abdulla.
A tweet posted by Vice President of Adaalath Party Ali Zahir said the party has requested Supreme Court to review the sentencing once again, even though the Supreme Court had rejected final appeal previously. Freeing opposition leaders in jail remains crucial to the transitional efforts of the opposition, Ali Zahir further stated.
Terrorism charges were raised against Imran for delivering a speech which encouraged violence, during the 2015 May Day protest, staged by the opposition coalition. The Criminal Court found Imran guilty of terrorism and was convicted on February 16, 2016.
