Maldives cherish partnership with UN development agencies: Foreign Minister

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim has stated Maldives cherish the partnership it have with the developmental agencies of the United Nations.

In his statement on the occasion of United Nations Day, Foreign Minister Asim noted the partnership that developed with the development agencies has helped to propel Maldives from being one of the poorest countries in the world to an upper middle income country within just a few decades.

‘’The United Nations is a beacon of hope that is the exemplar of human cooperation and understanding with the goal to keep and maintain international peace and security for the well-being of humanity. Maldives will continue to champion the ideals, the principles, and the purposes of the United Nations, because in every passing day, these values become more relevant than ever before,’’ the minister said in his statement.

Maldives became a member of the United Nations on September 21, 1965.
