Deputy Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdul Raheem Abdulla has expressed interest for the Parliament Speaker post which will be vacant in the event the no confidence motion submitted against Abdullah Maseeh is passed.

In a tweet, the deputy leader of the ruling party expressed his interest for the position. However, he did not reveal any further details.

The no-confidence motion against Maseeh was submitted with 51 signatures of parliamentarians, including members from the opposition coalition, the ruling party which Maseeh represents and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).

In the wake of some members leaving PPM following the heavy defeat in the presidential election a month ago, Abdul Raheem Abdulla has assured he will always stand by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, despite the changes in the political arena.
