Parliament Deputy Speaker request to swiftly conclude cases related to validity of parliamentarians

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Moosa Manik has requested to swiftly conclude the ongoing cases of parliamentarians before the no-confidence motion against Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh.

In a letter sent to Chief Justice Dr. Abdulla Didi, Moosa Manik requested to conclude the cases in Supreme Court related to the disputed parliament seats, so that all parliamentarians can attend the sittings. Holding parliament sittings in a manner all parliamentarians cannot attend is against Article 4 of the Constitution of Maldives, he further noted in his letter.

On October 8, the Supreme Court reinstated four parliamentarians. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has also concluded all hearings in the cases submitted regarding the validity of four parliamentarians, with hearings for the remaining two parliamentarians scheduled for tomorrow.
