World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative to Maldives Dr. Arvind Mathur has assured to assist and cooperate with Maldivian authorities in efforts of development and in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). Dr. Arvind Mathur gave the assurance in an interview to PSM News commemorating the United Nations Day.
Speaking to PSM News commemorating the United Nations Day, the WHO Representative assured to maintain close relations with all authorities of Maldives to further bring development to the country revealing to especially cooperate in efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals (SGDs). Noting the efforts of WHO in Maldives include minimising the impact on the health sector by weather changes, Mathur reiterated his commitment to Maldives in improving the public health sector.
WHO, United Nations Development Fund (UNDP), United National International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), all run under United Nations, work endlessly for the development of Maldives. Since 1965, WHO has worked with Maldives to control diseases, enhance human resources and services of the health sector by providing financial and technical support.
United Nations Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the United Nations Charter. With the ratification of the founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.
October 24 has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended the day to be observed by member states as a public holiday.
