Criminal Court rejects terror charges against Ibrahim Didi

Criminal Court of Maldives has rejected terrorism charges passed against Parliamentarian Brigadier General (Retd.) Ibrahim Mohamed Didi, regarding the arrest of the then Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed on January 16, 2012.

The charges against Ibrahim Mohamed Didi, who was then serving as the Male’ Area Commander, were filed on May 25, 2017. Earlier, the same charges were filed against Didi, but withdrawn when the prosecution failed to get convictions against former Chief of Defence Force Moosa Ali Jaleel and Colonel Mohamed Ziyad, on similar charges.

Hailed as a national hero for playing a pivotal role in the victory against the mercenaries that attacked Maldives in 1988, Ibrahim Didi was a respected soldier. He is credited with single-handedly delivering the key of the arsenal to the army headquarters, in disguise, while the headquarters was under attack.
