Former President Nasheed supports transformation of ECC to a hospital

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated he does not see the need to stop the project conducted by the current administration to transform the Equatorial Convention Centre (ECC) to a hospital.

Addressing the citizens of Feydhoo during his tour of Addu City, the former president said at this point, he does not see the need to redevelop the ECC as anything other than a hospital. Mohamed Nasheed said that it would not be of benefit to anyone to cast aside the amounts that have already been spent to transform the ECC to a hospital. Nasheed added if the people of Addu need a convention centre, a new one can be constructed. He highlighted the incoming government has a vision for the development of Addu City.

Citing the ECC built for the 2011 SAARC Summit by the Nasheed administration was not being utilised in its best capacity, the incumbent government decided to transform the building into a 100-bed tertiary hospital.

During his visit to Addu, he visited the ECC and observed the progress of development of the hospital at the building.
