Legal representatives of former President Mohamed Nasheed has responded to the Supreme Court of Maldives regarding the case submitted to review his 13-year jail sentence.
In a tweet, Hisaan Hussain, one of the legal representatives of the former president, revealed his legal team has now responded to the Supreme Court of Maldives regarding the case submitted to review the lengthy jail sentence issued by the Criminal Court in 2015, and which was upheld by the superior courts. Pending a decision on the request to review his case, on October 30, the Maldivian top court issued a stay order on the sentence.
The Prosecutor General’s Office raised terrorism charges against the former president following the illegal arrest and imprisonment of former Chief Judge of Criminal Court of Maldives Abdulla Mohamed in January 2012.
