Nasheed talks in favour of ferry services rather than building airports

Former President Mohamed Nasheed expresses it is more practical to establish affordable ferry services between the islands rather than building airports in every island.

Speaking in Dhidhdhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, the former president said air fares are costly as the maintenance of aircraft and airports are expensive. Nasheed made the remarks following the complaints of the residents of Dhidhdhoo regarding the transportation system in Maldives.

Addressing the concerns, Nasheed revealed a faster ferry operation will solve the problems, adding it is more practical and cheap. Moreover, replying to questions whether the incoming administration will further construct airports, Nasheed said developing airports in all the islands is not sustainable development.

Nasheed further assured the hospital in the island will be enhanced with new services, adding dialysis services will be introduced by the incoming government.

The former president Nasheed also inaugurated an office of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the island.
