Transition Committee concerned about carry-over debt

Transition Committee has revealed the increased amount of debt in the country will be a huge challenge for the incoming government.

Speaking to media regarding the proposed State Budget 2019, Co-Chair of Transition Committee on Finances Mohamed Nashiz highlighted the incoming government has to bear over USD 310 million as debt. Due to the amount of debt it will be very challenging to conduct the ongoing projects and the new projects planned by the incoming government, stated Mohamed Nashiz.

Meanwhile, Co-Chair Ibrahim Ameer revealed the incoming government will focus on solving water and sewerage issues by utilising the proposed USD 2 billion state budget for 2019. Water and sewerage facilities will be established in 72 islands by the incoming government, stated Ibrahim Ameer.

Ameer noted efforts are underway to develop the national development plan with the thought of submitting a supplementary budget.
