3,260 housing units were built within the past 5 years: Housing Minister

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed the current government has built 3,260 housing units across Maldives within the past five years.

Speaking at a press conference held to disseminate information about the completed projects by the outgoing administration, Minister Mohamed Muizzu said while people have started living in most of the housing units, efforts are underway to hand over the housing units to remaining tenants.

Furthermore, Minister Muizzu expressed the government spent USD 500 million for infrastructural development in the past five years. The minister further revealed USD 252 million was spent for social housing projects, while 60% of the total budget was spent on infrastructural development.

Moreover, during the press conference, the housing minister noted the studies related to the connection of Male’-Villimale’-Gulhifalhu-Thilafushi has been concluded. He asked the incoming government to continue the project as planned.

In addition, he highlighted the current administration carried out road development projects in 19 islands, harbour development in 82 islands, land reclamation in 13 islands, construction of coastal walls in 12 islands, construction of jetties in 2 islands, development of 9 parks in Male’ City and the development of 3.260 housing units across Maldives.
