President establishes Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery. The commission was established on the first day of President Solih’s term, 17 November 2018, in line with his electoral pledge to initiate the task on the first day of office. President Solih established the commission under the authority bestowed upon the president on Article 115 of the constitution.

The main aim of forming the Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery includes recovering state assets and investigating corruption of government officials. The presidential decree also stated corruption and cases related to influence of power were not investigated enough to serve justice as the authorities mandated to investigate did not perform their lawful duties.

The presidential commission includes Ahmed Assad, Aas Abdulla, Nadheem Ibrahim, Aishath Hana Waheed and Fathimath Sareera Ali Shareef. The president has appointed Ahmed Assad as the president of the commission.

The Commission is granted all rights which are bestowed to an investigative authority.
