By-election will not be held for vacant seats at parliament

Elections Commission of Maldives has revealed by-elections for six vacant seats in parliament will not be held. The six seats became vacant as the parliamentarians who represented the seats were appointed to government posts.

In this regard, Parliamentarian for Hinnavaru Constituency was elected as President of Maldives while Faisal Naseem who represented Kaashidhoo Constituency was elected as the Vice President of Maldives.
Moreover, Parliamentarian for North Machchangolhi Constituency Mariya Ahmed Didi is now heading the Ministry of Defence while Parliamentarian for South Henveiru Constituency Abdulla Shahid was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Meanwhile, Parliamentarian for Laamu Gan Constituency Fayyaz Ismail was appointed Minister of Economic Development and Parliamentarian for South Galolhu Constituency Ahmed Mahloof is the appointed Minister of Youth, Sports and Social Empowerment.

While Elections Commission decided not to hold the by-election for these constituencies, it has previously announced the next parliamentary elections will be held early next year.
