Home Minister vows not to interfere with daily police affairs

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has stated he would never directly interfere with day-to-day operations of the Maldives Police Force.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, the home minister said the real reason behind people losing faith in the police service was the undue political influences that had infiltrated the institution and spun it off its axis. Shedding light on some of the more questionable actions taken by the police, Minster Imran said accusations levelled against the force do not materialise without reason.

Noting the institution needs the trust of the public, Imran said the responsibility of the home minister would be to strengthen operations of the police force under a better system. He assured under his leadership, Maldives Police Service would be a just and fair institution.
