PPM widely criticises appointing Imran as Home Minister

Parliamentary Group Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has widely criticised the current administration on the appointment of Sheikh Imran Abdulla to the cabinet. He described appointing Imran Abdulla as the Minister of Home Affairs is a direct act of insulting the constitutional law.

The PPM parliamentary group leader made the comments in the wake of Imran Abdulla resigning and being reappointed as the home minister yesterday. Condemning the act, Nihan stated Imran should know the criteria to fill a cabinet position, adding an ineligible person taking oath of a public office is not a minor issue.

Moreover, Nihan revealed that some parliamentarians have also raised concerns regarding the matter. He also accused reappointment of Imran proves the initial appointment was wrong.

The home minister resigned from the position in the wake of criticism as he carried a 12-year jail sentence when he initially took office. However, the Supreme Court had deferred the jail sentence, until it was reviewed, when Imran Abdulla was appointed to the ministerial post on November 17. The Supreme Court nullified the jail sentence on November 22.
