Parliament approves new ministerial cabinet

The parliament has approved the new ministerial cabinet of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

While all names proposed were approved by the parliament, most names were passed unanimously with the vote of all parliamentarians at the sitting. However, there were two abstentions for Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla, one vote against Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir and two votes against Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef.

Names of the appointed cabinet ministers must be sent to parliament for review within 7 days since appointment, according to Article 129 of the constitution. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced his cabinet on November 17. The cabinet consists of 20 members including the attorney general.
