Development of tertiary hospital in Addu to be completed within the given schedule

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has revealed the administration has not yet decided whether the tertiary hospital in Addu City will be operated by the government or by a private party. The health minister made the remarks during a media briefing held in Addu as part of his official trip to the city.

Speaking to the media in his first visit to the city since assuming his ministerial responsibilities, Minister Ameen stated the aim of the administration is to conclude the development of the hospital within the given schedule. He said upon completion of the project, the government will discuss on how the hospital will be operated.

Moreover, speaking regarding the health situation in Addu, the health minister expressed the situation is worse than he imagined and the government will exert major efforts to enhance the sector.

The convention centre developed for the 17th SAARC Summit held in Addu is now being developed as a tertiary hospital at a cost of over USD 21 million. The 100-bed hospital development project is contracted to Alia Construction Private Limited.
