President of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Hassan Luthufee has revealed numerous efforts were exerted to criminalise unrighteous wealth as the international treaties signed by Maldives encourages to do so.
In his address commemorating International Anti-Corruption Day, the president of ACC stated there are several loopholes when seeking action against corruption adding it is crucial to eliminate such loopholes in relevant rules and regulations. Noting the state lost about USD 130 million for corruption, Luthufee said collaborative efforts are exerted with relevant authorities to recover the lost funds.
Moreover, in the statement, Luthufee noted 539 cases were filed at ACC with 203 cases initiated by the commission and expressed 6 cases have now been forwarded to Prosecutor General’s Office so far this year.
