Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula has officially inaugurated a free parking area in Velana International Airport (VIA) for all airport employees, fulfilling one of goals of the first 100 days of the government.
Speaking at the ceremony held to officially open the 700-slot parking area in VIA, Transport Minister Aishath Nahula expressed the opening of the parking area will ease travelling for airport employees. She revealed plans to develop more parking areas in the airport.
Meanwhile, acting Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Moosa Solih stated a walkway will be constructed to ease the arrival to the terminal from the parking area. MACL said a vehicle can be parked for maximum 12 hours and a fee would be taken if it exceeds the 12 hour mark, according to a statement issued following the opening of the parking area.
While the government has included fifteen pledges for the transportation sector to be achieved in the first 100 days of the administration, 5 of the pledges have now been achieved. The pledges include eliminating taxi board fees, increasing bus stops, towing unused vehicles on the streets, opening some areas of Male' harbour for public and free parking for employees working at VIA.
