Maldives Third-way Democrats (MTD) has revealed it would never support Maldives adopting a parliamentary system of government.
In a press conference, Ismail Asif, one of the founding members of MTD and the president of Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI), said a parliamentary system of government would not work in a small country such as Maldives and noted bigger countries with stronger democracies have struggled to implement such a system.
Highlighting the ongoing membership drive, Asif said over 3,000 members have signed for the party. However, he noted there have been several attempts to tarnish the name of the party even at such an initial stage.
Furthermore, Asif expressed MTD would support projects and agendas of the government which benefits the citizens.
