Police begins investigating sexual assault allegations at Foreign Ministry

Maldives Police Service has initiated a criminal investigation into allegations of sexual assault against a former senior official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to a media statement issued by the committee investigating the sexual harassment allegations, the committee said it was informed the case is now investigated by the police and has handed over all the relevant documents upon request. The statement highlighted the complaint was filed at the committee on November 8.

Foreign Ministry has assured of a zero tolerance policy towards sexual harassment within the institution and also to ensure a safe working environment for all its staff. The ministry noted it is working towards strengthening existing institutional mechanisms to address issues of sexual harassment.
