Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula has assured to reduce the airfare price of domestic travels as part of the goals to be achieved in the first 100 days of the current administration.
Speaking at a press conference, Transport Minister Nahula revealed the new airfares will be announced within the next two days. She noted the government aims to provide better air transportation services with the reduction of airfare.
In order to achieve the goal, discussions on price reduction are underway with Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, according to the transport minister. The minister added even though reduced prices are announced, it will take time to implement the decision. However, she assured of reduced airfares and enhanced services in the coming days.
Currently, there are two domestic air operators in Maldives, which are national carrier, Maldivian and privately-owned, Flyme. Another domestic airline, Manta Air, is gearing up to operate domestic air services in Maldives.
