Former President Yameen summoned to the police

Maldives Police Service has summoned former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom regarding an ongoing investigation.

The former president has been asked to present himself for question at 1400hrs on Saturday, according to a parliamentarian representing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). The member, who wishes to be anonymous, revealed the case is related to funds deposited to the account of the former president during the presidential election.

During the run-up to the presidential election it was reported a total of USD 1.5 million was deposited on two occasions. The incident which was also reported in the international media was reported to the police by the financial intelligence unit of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

Former Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer was also summoned to the police and questioned.
