Motion filed requesting a halt order on all construction work

Lawyers have filed a motion with the Civil Court requesting a court order to stop all ongoing construction work until mandatory regulations are formulated as per, the Maldives Construction Act.

This comes in the wake of a tragic incident which has resulted in a death of a minor, after a cement bag from a construction site fell on the child. The motion states, that 14 regulations which had to be formulated under the Maldives Construction Act had not been formulated by the relevant ministry and requested the Civil Court to provide a 30 day period to formulate the said regulations.

The motion also requests an inspection of construction sites that are carrying out work, in the absence of relevant regulations. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also instructed authorities to inspect all construction sites following yesterday's incident.
