A law is needed to strengthen safety procedures in construction: MACI

Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MACI) has stated a law is needed to strengthen the safety procedures followed in the construction industry.

Speaking at a press conference, Vice President of MACI Adnaan Haleem said the association submitted a bill to the Attorney General's Office in 2014 to enhance the safety procedures. Meanwhile, President of MACI Abdulla Mohamed noted such incidents are caused due to negligence and ignorance, and urged to be aware of the laws and the regulations. He stated such unfavourable situations can be avoided if the relevant parties follow the safety guidelines.

The government along with other relevant authorities and non-governmental organisations have stepped up efforts to ensure safety measures are take in construction in the wake of a little girl dying after she was hit from a falling cement bag from a building under construction.
