Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has endorsed its former Parliamentarian Riyaz Rasheed for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Riyaz Rasheed had previously quit PPM and joined Jumhooree Party, a government coalition partner, in the days following the presidential election. However, Riyaz was lately seen voicing his support and allegiance for former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
In a press conference, President of PPM Abdulla Yameen said the party would not contest for Vilufushi constituency and will instead endorse and support Riyaz Rasheed. He noted PPM will not contest for all the constituencies.
During the press conference, party tickets were given to 13 individuals. PPM has now handed over party tickets to a total of 55 individuals without a primary.
