Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated all funds in his bank accounts are valid.
Responding to concerns raised amid an ongoing investigation into his funds, to the tune of over USD 6.470 million that is in his bank account, the former president said his account does not have any illegal funds. Addressing the press after a function held to announce candidates Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is fielding for the upcoming parliamentary elections, the former president said Maldives Police Service has not yet interrogated him, nor pressed any charges against him. Responding to questions by the media, Yameen reiterated he submitted a financial statement at the Elections Commission and is ready to explain the figures.
The former president was summoned to Maldives Police Service on Saturday and interrogated, regarding nearly USD 1.5 million deposited to his account in the run up to the presidential election.
