Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef has stated there is a serious need to tackle the external influences that hinder women's rights and gender equality. The gender minister made the remarks at a ceremony held to inaugurate the meeting on the periodic report validation to be submitted at the United Nations under The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
Speaking at the meeting, Gender Minister Shidhatha noted the society still discriminates between the genders, adding tackling such ideologies is a need to flourish the society. The minister said the periodic report validation formulated and submitted will further boost the efforts to tackle external influences that hider women's rights.
The validation meeting was attended by 72 individuals from the relevant authorities.
