Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated over 11,000 members from Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has joined the main ruling party in government coalition, Maldives Democratic Party (MDP).
Speaking to media following a meeting held with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and other coalition leaders, former President Nasheed said the number of people joining MDP has increased since the announcement of parliamentary primary. Noting MDP has seen a rapid increase in membership since the landslide victory in the presidential elections, the former president revealed a total of 30-thousand people have signed for the party since September 23.
Moreover, Nasheed said the public wants to always back the ruling party, adding he expects the more people signing for MDP in the days ahead.
