MDP must secure parliament majority to fulfil pledges: Nasheed

President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has stated it is vital for the party to secure a majority in the parliament to assist the efforts of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to fulfil his electoral pledges.

Addressing a function held in Ihavandhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, former president of Maldives said the whole country wishes for MDP to secure a parliament majority, adding it is vital to fully achieve the pledges of the administration. MDP has decided to contest for 86 constituencies, with parliamentary primaries scheduled to be held next month.

In Ihavandhoo, Nasheed met with council members and inquired about the difficulties faced in the island. The council noted the difficulties faced as the island lacks a special area to dump waste, denied access to ice producing plants and identified some issues in the health sector.

Former President Nasheed has also announced his candidature for the parliamentary elections scheduled to be held on April 6.
