Local Government Authority (LGA) has appointed Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla as the president of the president of the authority.
The president must appoint a cabinet minister to the Board of Directors of LGA who will be answerable to the Parliament, according to Article 140 of the constitution. Imran Abdulla is now responsible for being answerable to the Parliament on behalf of LGA, as required by Article 63 of Decentralisation Act, according to Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Board of Directors of LGA consists of five members, including a minister appointed by the president, a woman from the gender equality sector, a member from a civil organisation, an experienced individual from the governance or public administration sector and the chief executive officer of LGA.
