Managing Director of State Trading Organisation (STO) Hussain Amr reveals plans to initiate several projects to ensure staple foods are attained without any interruptions or chaos.
Speaking at the first ever Maldives Business Awards, the managing director said while Maldives is completely dependent on imported goods, it is important to initiate efforts to be self-sufficient. In this regard, Amr noted STO has begun identifying the items that can be cultivated in Maldives.
Moreover, Amr stated it is an aim of STO to invest in renewable energy sources to minimize the dependency on oil. He also said the staples are stored in Maldives sufficient for only two months, which will create havocs in case of a natural disaster.
